Position Master
Objective Is responsible for the ship to operate with highest level of security according to
the stated principles of the company, the policies and the objectives.
Responsibilities The master is responsible for:
- Scheduling and the maintenance of the vessel, decks, superstructure,
the accommodation spaces and deck machinery. - To ensure that the ship
is always seaworthy and safe according to the rules and regulations. - Ensuring the compliance of the ship with the requirements of the national
legislation, the international contracts and the requirements of the ports
of call. - Ensuring that the vessel is adequately equipped and manned for the
execution of the intended journey, including the briefing and updating of
the nautical maps and publications. - Ensuring the life insurance of the crew and the passengers, the
protection of the environment and the safety of the vessel. - Scheduling and execute all necessary inspections in time as well as the
security certifications. - Carrying out his watch at sea and to assure that the vessel operates with
safety, while it is also safely moored when at dock. - Ensuring that the regulations of the company, the instructions and the
policies are followed regarding the operations of the vessel and its
maintenance. - Maintaining harmonious relations with other stewardships as well as with
his subordinates. - Providing first aid in case it is necessary and proceeding with all the
necessary action and reporting - Implementing and promoting safe working practices.
- Ensuring the discipline while being responsible for all of the ships staff
which he will assess as well. - Ensuring that the embarkation, transport and disembarkation of the
passengers are performed smoothly and with safety. - Overseeing the appearance and conduct of the crew.
- Ensuring the sanitation and cleanness of the vessel.
- Reporting to the Port Captain of any damages that may occur or
passengers’ needs, who will in turn guide him in regards to which steps
to follow. - Being present on embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, the
Captain’s Dinner and whichever other event his presence may be
necessary. - Briefing passengers and escorts in time of weather conditions or
probable change in itinerary. - Performing safety drills.
- Payroll and accounts are the responsibility of the master.
Note: Seafarers are employed as per MLC requirements. Their monthly earnings
correspond to 312 hours of work, or on average 10 hours of work per day, including Sundays.
Seafarer is entitled to minimum 10 hours of rest per 24 hours or minimum 77 hours of rest per 7
days.
