Chief Officer
Position Chief Officer
Objective To act as second in hierarchy under command of the Master.
He is responsible for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, the
maintenance of the steel construction of the vessel, the accommodation spaces, the
security devices and all machinery related to the means of fastening/
embarking/disembarking. While implementing his duties he is supported by a team of
officers and crew members as well as from the Chief Engineer and all other members
of Engine Supervision and the maintenance of all the deck machinery.
Responsibilities The Chief Officer is at the orders of the master and is responsible for:
- Scheduling and monitoring the maintenance of the vessel, decks,
superstructure, accommodation spaces, deck and bridge machinery. To
ensure that the ship is always safe and ready for sail. - Carrying out guards while at sea and ensuring that the vessel operates with
safety, while it is safely moored while at dock. To act according to the
relevant rules, regulations and operational needs of the vessel, which always
have to comply with the permanent orders of the master. - Ensuring that the regulations of the company, the instructions and the
policies are followed regarding the operations of the vessel and its
maintenance. - Maintaining harmonious relations with other stewardships as well as with his
subordinates. - Ensuring the compliance with all the rules and practices of safety, sanitation,
cleanness and protections of the environment that are practiced on board the
vessel. - Keeping a first aid kit and provide first aid whenever it is necessary.
- Monitoring the region and space where the crew is working and issue the
relevant permits for work and entrance in a closed space. - To keep a list with all the certifications and dates, while notified the
headquarters. - To be present at safety drills, and in charge of their recording as appropriate.
- Overseeing the appearance and conduct of the crew.
- To be in charge of passengers monitoring and tender /rescue boat
commander during swim stops and whenever necessary. - Seaman should cater for keeping his/her personal cabin clean and tidy and
keep same as such at his/ her own time and effort.
Reports to The Master
Note: Seafarers are employed as per MLC requirements. Their monthly earnings
correspond to 312 hours of work, or on average 10 hours of work per day, including
Sundays. Seafarer is entitled to minimum 10 hours of rest per 24 hours or minimum 77 hours of
rest per 7 days.
